The Cameron Highlands were discovered by Sir William Cameron in 1885. The area is at an elevation ranging from 1,100m (3,600 ft) to 1,600m (5,200 ft) above sea level. The altitude make for a cool climate and the temperature seldom rises above 25Deg C. This climate makes for an ideal location to escape the warm, humid temperature of the lower lying areas of Malaysia. In 1931, when the roads open, locals and the British settled on the mountain slopes and were soon followed by tea planters and vegetable growers.
